On Friday, July 5th at 17:30, right after the opening of the Sudecki Mineral Festival, Mayor of Lubań, Grzegorz Wieczorek, distinguished historian and regionalist, invites everyone interested for a free walking tour of Luban. Historical curiosities, Lubań's past and future, and perhaps some secrets? What will the Mayor reveal - find out for yourself! You're warmly invited!
Geological field trips„Trails of Extinct Volcanoes”
Start from Bracka Tower, duration: about 1,5 hours, participation costs PLN 10/person
The author of the guide “Lubański szlak wulkaniczny” (eng. Lubański volcanic trail) will lead a trip. During it, Kamienna Góra in Lubań will reveal its greatest geological attractions. It will be possible to learn about the history of Lubań’s “black gold” dating back to the Middle Ages, also admire the monumental basalt columns, visit the old quarry and come across the history of mysterious adits. All of this attractions you will observe in the shadow of old trees, charming alleys and in the face of the breathtaking panorama of the Karkonosze Mountains and Izera Mountains.
Historical trip „On the tracks of the history of Lubań”
Start from the Bracka Tower, duration 1,5 h, participation costs PLN 10/person
During the trip you will be able to discover the most interesting places of the Old Town, including the renaissance seat of the city council, the huge Bracka Tower, hiding the dark secrets Trinitarian Tower, remembering the medieval defense walls of the war. It will be also possible to “meet” the most colorful figures from before like Napoleon, Russian tsar, the Habsburg emperor, the Swedish king, the American president, as well as urban dissidents, preachers and politicians. A historical tour of Lubań is an opportunity for a journey in time.
Historical Tour“Trails of the 1945 Battle of Luban”
Starting from Bracka Tower, duration approximately 1.5 hours, participation fee 10 PLN/person
In 1945, Luban witnessed a fierce battle between two opposing armies. The city was defended by Germans while Russians stormed it. The battle ended with the Wehrmacht's victory, leaving Luban in ruins. The traces of these intense military struggles are visible to this day. The fights had a very interesting course and were rich in dramatic events. We will talk about them during a special tour at the Sudecki Mineral Festival.
Historical Tour“Trails of Horror in Old Luban”
In the history of Luban, there have been events that can be described as dark, frightening, or full of horror. Some of them concerned individuals, while others were related to the fate of the entire city. Even after the passage of sometimes hundreds of years, the stories about them still send shivers down the spine. Murders, ghosts, demons, tragic deaths, and unexplained phenomena - the “Luban X-files” will be opened exclusively for you during the Sudecki Mineral Festival.
Lectures
„Meteorites and Other Aliens”
The lecture will take place in the conference room in Sukiennice (TRET) on the Market Square, participation is free of charge.
The main exhibition of this year's Festival is "Meteorites - the touch of the cosmos". Meteorites have fascinated people for thousands of years, remaining "magical" and mysterious objects. Now, each of the festival guests will have the opportunity to see them live, touch them and learn their secrets. Andrzej Paczos's lecture will be a substantive supplement to the main exhibition. We will learn from it what "extras from outer space" are, where they come from and what information about the universe they provide us with.
